This opportunity has been provided to me, and my fellow participants by the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations, if you are interested in learning more please do not hesitate to look at some of the amazing work this organization is doing. I am participating in the NCUSCR's Teacher Exchange Program which has been sending K-12 educators to china since 1996. Please enjoy my PG-13 Chinese exploits.

What to do for lunch? How about a wedding...

Ninmen Hao
First off, let me be very clear, This was not MY wedding.  Apparently it is becoming a a tradition at Luoyang No. 2 Foreign Language School to invite all of the foreigners to your wedding.  This was a truly awesome experience, I had no idea that This was even a possibility.  This was a great opportunity to see a completely new side of Chinese culture.  Here are some photos from the day:
The lovely bride and handsome groom
The flower girl and "ring bearer"
The spread
The center piece, soda, Bijou, peanuts, and cigarettes
The MC and the soon to be married couple
It's smiling at me...
The "party favor"
A close up on the danger...
The flower girl doubles as the "candle angel"
This ceremony was a very intriguing mix of western influences and traditional Chinese actions.  While all of the speeches were being made, in Chinese, it was never quiet.  I actually wondered if anyone besides me and the families of the bride and groom were paying attention.   Really though, this whole experience was pretty cool.  So cool that I actually have another wedding next Wednesday (and at least one more in October).  Awesome!

On a different note, Friday is Teacher day here No. 2, this consists of sending the students home early,  at least one tug-of-war between the English Junior 1 and Junior 2 teams, A musical performance from the four foreign teachers (woo hoo), a banquet at an awesome restaurant, and a bonus.  That's right, I've been at this school for less than two weeks and Principal Bi is giving me (and the other foreign teachers) a 500 yuan bonus (the Chinese teacher are getting 1000 yuan).  I remember getting a small Hersey's kiss for teacher appreciation week last year... it's all about morale.  This has been an interesting week and we aren't even done yet.  Who knows what's next.  I miss you all, thanks for the great messages.

Zaijian!
